Before the towers, trade flowed through Dubai Creek. The split between Bur Dubai (south) and Deira (north) is still the city's most walkable history lesson.

Gold Souk alley in Deira

Morning — Bur Dubai

  • Al Fahidi heritage lanes
  • Textile Souk near Bur Dubai abra station

Cross the Creek

Pay the abra operator about AED 2 — minutes to Deira.

Afternoon — Deira

  • Gold Souk — gold prices track international rates; making charges are negotiable
  • Spice Souk — saffron, dried lime, oud samples

Metro Al Ghubaiba, Sharaf DG, or Baniyas Square on the Green Line reduce taxi needs.
